Tusker today handed out cheques to the football and rugby clubs that participated in the Tusker Jenga game. The 3 month promotion kicked off in October. The promotion gave beer lovers a chance to raise cash for their favourite clubs. Among the clubs in attendance at the handover ceremony were Tusker FC, GorMahia FC, AFC Leopards, Thika United and Sofapaka FC.
“In the last few years, Tusker played a major role in the development of football and rugby which have provided memorable moments for Kenyans,” said Tusker Marketing Manager Arianne Okong’o, “As the Tusker Premier League season kicks off next month and the rugby calendar remains active, the brand will continue to play its role to ensure that all talent gets a platform to shine in their respective fields.”
The campaign had Harambee star legends Joe Kadenge, George Sunguti, Josephat Mulira and Tobias Ochola as the headliners for the campaign. The campaign was appealing for grassroot support from fans across Kenya.
2 shillings from every bottle of Tusker went to the fan’s club after sending the team code ot 21450. A score board was realeased every week to show which club had the highest amounts contributed so far. Tusker FC came in first with a contribution of Ksh. 704,950. Gor Mahia was second with Ksh. 584, 912.
Tusker customers had the chance to contribute to their favourite club’s kitty. For each bottle of Tusker bought, Kshs. 2 went towards the fan’s club of choice after they sent the team’s code to 21450 at a cost of Kshs. 1 per SMS. A score board was released each week to show the club with the highest amount of money contributed.
Tusker FC led the scoreboard for much of the campaign and eventually came in at first place with the most contribution at Kshs. 704,950. Charles Obiny of Tusker FC thanked the club’s fans for their support during the campaign by saying, “we now have funds to buy 30 black and yellow team warm tracksuits and boots and we will also utilize the left over funds for the benefit of the team.”
“We will use the money to buy medical items, training bibs and quality playing balls as was specified in our wish list before the campaign began,” said Ambrose Rachier, the GorMahia FC Chairman.
16 football clubs and 9 rugby clubs participated in the promotion that also saw 9 lucky consumers walk away with Kshs. 200,000 each for participation.
