We all have those moments when we don’t feel like eating, whether caused by mood or medical reasons. The ginger root can be used to fix that, all you need to do is peel it, slice a few pieces and chew them.

Ginger tea is also a great way to start your day on an appetizing note. Other plants that have been known to increase appetite are peppermint and cayenne pepper.

Studies have shown that you can get ginger to get rid of nausea. Whether the cause of vomiting is stomach ache or morning sickness from pregnancy, ginger has been proven to rid you of it.

  1. Reduces menstrual pain

Menstrual pain or dysmenorrhea is the pain felt during a woman’s menstrual cycle. Ginger has been traditionally used to relieve menstrual pain. More recently, research took the claim to test by taking 150 women to take a gram of ginger powder per day, during the first three days of the cycle. Due to ibuprofen and mefenamic acid (components found in ginger), the women reported reduced pain during the cycle.

  1. Malabsorption

Malabsorption is the inadequate absorption of food materials by the small intestines. Some of the signs of malabsorption include anaemia, low energies, chronic fatigue, oily stools, constipation and brittle nails. Not to worry though, ginger has been known to treat this condition. Other spices that can help are cloves, cinnamon, cumin, coriander, ginger, and turmeric.

  1. Reduces pain and soreness in muscles

A study shows that regular consumption of ginger does help lessen pain in muscles. However, it is essential to mention the effect is not immediate. Thus, it should best be used as a preventive and less as a curative measure.

There are three main ways to ingest ginger,

  • You can grate, it to your tea and enjoy some delicious ginger tea. You could also use ginger powder or ginger flavoured tea leaves.
  • You can add it to your food by either grating it or buy powder ginger.
  • You can slice small pieces and chew them directly.

More research is still being carried out to determine even more benefits of this miraculous plant. For the meantime, add it to your diet, and you’ll see the improvement.
