M-PESA has revolutionized how Kenyans make their monetary transactions by creating quicker, cheaper and more reliable money transfers over great distances. The year 2020 marks twelve years since the launch of this great invention that has undoubtedly been of great use to many Kenyans. To prove just how great the M-PESA service is, in September 2016 Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg made his way to Nairobi on a scouting mission in line with the M-PESA service, in search of his next growth milestone.

Safaricom this week launched an exciting eight-week customer and merchant promotion. The Lipa Na M-Pesa promotion will reward both customers and merchants for making and receiving payments through the service. Buyers and sellers will receive 1 point for every Ksh. 100 payment with customers having the chance to win prizes worth millions.

Data from The Central Bank of Kenya shows that Lipa Na M-PESA is the most popular way to make and receive non-cash payments, accounting for more than nine of every ten such transactions. This proves the significance and impact that the service has had over the years.

The prizes that are up for grabs for the customers include six brand new apartments and eight tractors equipped with a plough and trailer. Winning has never been so easy. Safaricom will also reward eight customers across the eight regions with cashback every every minute of the promotion, with more than 600,000 shoppers getting awarded by the end of the promotion.

The merchants stand a chance to win 8 brand new Fuso F1 nine trucks and 120 Tuktuks. As a bonus for the three month promotion period, all merchants will receive 25% of their daily till charges for Lipa Na Mpesa.
