Love is a complex mix of emotions. It is happiness, sacrifice, concern and care. It is warmth, respect and protectiveness. Valentine’s Day is here with us again. As usual, it comes with mixed feelings. For some, it’s a period to show affection and concern to those who they love. For others, it is seen as a capitalist concept of making money from people. The last group of people consists of those who are indifferent about it altogether. It’s not a big deal to them and they see it as just another ordinary day.
Whichever group you belong to, I’m sure everyone is in one way or another affected by Valentine’s Day. It’s a chance to put a smile on someone’s face. It’s a chance to show your loved ones just how much you actually care about them. This is not to say that you should wait for this one day out of the 365 others to love someone. Love should be a part of us, every single day.
Here are five ways of spending your Valentine’s day at home.
1. Watch a romantic movie together
You might want to watch a love-based movie. My all-time favourite and top suggestion would be The Notebook. It’s sad, and yet still emphasizes the magnitude of love. Classic movies make the best love stories. This includes Sound Of Music, Titanic or even recent ones like The Great Gatsby. Watching such movies can be a way of strengthening you and your partner’s bond as you get to experience the different emotions of the movie together. I would suggest that you pick out the movie together and before Valentine’s Day so that you are both on the same page. Here are some Romantic Comedies To Watch On Valentine’s Day
2. Have a D.I.Y spa night
You can also choose to do something more relaxing, like a spa night. This will involve a bubble bath and foot massages. To set the mood, you may want to add candles, essential oils for relaxing, soft music, rose petals wine and chocolate. This will give you and your partner a great chance to bond while still relaxing. It will also give you a chance to show affection for each other and remember why you love them in the first place. You might also want to do face masks while at it, so that it’s a self-care session, but with your loved one.

3. Have a karaoke night
There’s something about singing that deepens the connection between two people. For Valentine’s Day, you can take advantage of this fact to build the affection that you and your partner have for each other. I would suggest that you sing love songs. I would suggest old-school classics because I feel that they are extremely soulful. I’m talking about Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dione, Lionel Richie and the likes. You can also make this a competition of who has the best voice making it more exciting.
4. Read your journals and letters to each other
One of the ways to renew your love for each other is to revisit what brought you together. This can be done by going through your courtship stage together. If you have any letters or journals about your significant other, this is the time to bring them out and have a look at them. It will make you love your partner even more by reminding you why you fell in love with them in the first place.
5. Order from a restaurant
You can also order in from a restaurant. Eating together at home is more intimate than eating out, so it is advisable that the two of you get food delivered to your house. It also gives you the privacy and intimacy that the two of you need for Valentine’s day. While eating, you may profess your love to each other or have a gratitude list of the reasons why you love your partner.
